Mercer is more than just a supplier of pulp, paper and wood products. The company is committed to sustainability, which is reflected not only in its products, but also in its commitment to the world’s forests. For Mercer Holz, ‘Be sustainable’ is more than just a slogan – it is a guiding principle.
Putting down roots in Jerichow: Reforestation with a Future
The International Day of Forests was a special occasion for Mercer Holz this year. Together with former Mercer employee and current mayor Cathleen Lüdicke, the company initiated a tree-planting campaign in Jerichow, Saxony-Anhalt. Around 30 children learned how a forest is reforested and the importance of sustainable forestry for future generations. The children’s enthusiasm showed how important it is to raise awareness of the importance of the forest at an early age.
Together for the forest: leading by example
The tree planting campaign was a joint project, with staff from the city council, the forestry office, the volunteer fire brigade and Mercer Holz’s eastern timber purchasing team working hand in hand. After the Anhalt forestry office had prepared the area, around 3,000 seedlings were planted in a short space of time. An impressive result that shows what community involvement can achieve.
“Growing Forests – Growing a Future”: Initiative for Healthy Forests
The campaign in Jerichow is part of the “Growing Forests – Growing a Future” initiative, through which Mercer Holz supports forest owners throughout Germany in their reforestation efforts. The company provides carefully selected seedlings and information about sustainable forestry. Healthy forests are close to Mercer Holz’s heart.
Mercer Holz: Commitment beyond our core business
With its initiative, Mercer Holz wants to make a contribution for future generations. For the company, sustainability means taking responsibility and thinking long-term. Mercer Holz not only wants to harvest wood, but also to give something back and help keep forests healthy and resilient.
Looking to the future: growing together
Now is the time for action. Mercer Holz is committed to the health and longevity of forests and invites everyone to join us in this commitment. Only together can we create a green future.

The importance of forests
Forests are much more than a collection of trees. They are complex ecosystems that fulfill a wide range of functions and play a vital role in supporting life on Earth. They produce oxygen, regulate the climate, protect the soil from erosion and provide a habitat for countless species of plants and animals.
Trees absorb CO2 and store carbon as they grow. On average, one hectare of forest sequesters around 6 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Forests are also places of recreation and inspiration for people. Their protection and sustainable management is therefore of the utmost importance for present and future generations.
